Thomas Rhett Shares How His Life Quickly Went From An Agonizing Struggle To Unfathomable Blessings

The heartbreaking struggle to conceive combined with the frustrations of adoption can be torture. But now it’s all okay, because they ended up with both!

Thomas Rhett Akins is finally living the life he’s been working tirelessly to achieve. What seemed like a bleak struggle in his marriage to conceive without success has now become a dream come true. In the last year he’s began discussing adoption in interviews and admitted he’d met a beautiful newborn girl while visiting Uganda. Although, the journey had it’s challenges.

Just two months ago, Rhett admitted in a radio interview:

“The process of adopting someone from a different country is really, really strenuous, and you find out a lot about yourself,” he said.

“When you’re over there and you and your wife are staying in a hotel room for a month and a half and you wake up, and you think you’re going to get some news and you don’t get it, or you don’t think you’re going to get some news and you do get it. That’s really the best way I can describe the adoption process: an emotional roller coaster.”

Then, in a wonderful change of events, the couple had actually succeeded in conceiving a baby! Since the adoption process was underway, Rhett realized he had quite the challenge ahead of himself with his busy tour schedule since the release of his third studio album.

Considering the struggles him and Lauren had to go through to grow their family, the blessings helps him to admit he’s more excited than worried.

“One thing I can’t wait for is to see what they’re interested in,” he says. “Are they gonna like music, or are they gonna resent it because that’s my job? And one thing I’m terrified about is, I’m already so busy … how in the world am I gonna balance the career and kids? And I think the answer is, it’s impossible. So, lots of Red Bull. Dierks [Bentley] said lots of Red Bull.”

“I’m just pumped,” he shares. “I’ve always wanted to be a dad, and now it’s coming in twos.”

Then just 10 days ago they announced that their daughter, Willa Gray Akins, was brought home from Uganda.  “On the way to the airport, it was like Christmas Day,” Rhett said.

“It felt like a dream,” his wife added in. “I’ve dreamed of us all being on the same continent for so long. It finally feels like everyone is where they’re supposed to be.”

In the past few days alone, the 18-month-old has experienced the world of country music when dad decided to bring her out onstage during one of his weekend concerts.

With her first pair of noise canceling headphones protecting her ears, Willa was able to appear on stage and experience Thomas Rhett’s Home Team Tour.
